Jayawardene-led DD delighted; Kolkata lose

DD made no changes to their playing eleven.

KKR made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Brendon McCullum and Mohammed Shami made way for Sumit Narwal and Brett Lee.

On winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 37, and lost three wickets.

KKR’s openers put on four. Gambhir did not face a ball. A couple of balls into the match, Irfan Pathan ran him out.

Manvinder had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. A dozen balls (Bis)later, Umesh Yadav broke the 12-run stand.

Yusuf Pathan, whose 16-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 20. Twenty-one balls later, he was caught by his half-brother, Irfan. Morne Morkel broke the run-a-ball stand.

Morgan, whose nine-ball (Eo)innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 10. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Umesh. Shahbaz Nadeem broke the 11-run stand.

KKR scored 50 off as many balls (8.2 overs). DD had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Jacques Kallis, whose 15-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored a dozen. Five balls after Morgan’s dismissal, he was caught by Ben Rohrer. Irfan broke the two-run stand.

Debabrata Das, whose 26-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 18. Forty-one balls later, he was caught by Kedar Jadhav. Ashish Nehra broke the 34-run stand.

KKR scored 100 off 16.3 overs (99 balls). DD had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Rajat Bhatia, whose run-a-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 26. He was unbeaten.

Narwal, whose 15-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 23. Eighteen balls after Das’ dismissal, he was caught by Unmukt Chand. Umesh broke the 30-run stand.

Lee, whose nine-ball innings included a couple of sixes, scored 16. He was unbeaten.

The number of extras they eventually conceded gave DD no reason to be in seventh heaven.

KKR scored 136 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Nehra, Nadeem (whose spell included a maiden), Morne, and Irfan picked up a wicket apiece. They conceded 37, 23, 22, and 16, respectively.

Umesh, who conceded 36, picked up a couple of scalps.

The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 34, and lost a couple of wickets.

Virender Sehwag, whose 15-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 17. Twenty-two balls into the chase, he was caught by Yusuf. Kallis broke the 23-run stand.

Jayawardene, DD’s skipper, faced eight balls, scoring five. Three balls (Mahe)later, he was caught by Kallis. Lakshmipathy Balaji broke the four-run stand.

DD scored 50 off 8.1 overs (49 balls). KKR had conceded an extra at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 47 balls. While Chand’s contribution to the partnership was 17, the contribution of David Warner, the player of the match, to it was 34. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

DD scored 100 off 15 overs (90 balls). KKR had conceded a couple of extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Chand, whose 39-ball innings included four boundaries, eventually scored 37. Seventy-six balls after Jayawardene’s dismissal, he was caught by Balaji. Lee broke the 95-run partnership.

Warner’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 35 balls.

He eventually scored 66 off 42 balls, which included half-a-dozen boundaries and three sixes. He was unbeaten.

Rohrer, whose three-ball innings included a six, was unbea‘ten’.

DD, who scored 137 for the loss of three wickets off 17.5 overs, won by seven wickets with 13 balls to spare.

Yusuf, who bowled five wicketless balls, conceded 11.

Bhatia, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 21.

Sunil Narine, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 14.

Kallis, who bowled three overs, conceded 29. He picked up a scalp, as did Balaji and Lee, who bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 35, the latter conceded 26.
