Dhoni shines; CSK beat Pune

PWI made one change to their playing eleven – Mithun Manhas made way for Tirumalasetti Suman.

CSK made one change to their playing (Mork)eleven – Dirk Nannes made way for Albie.

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper and the player of the match, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 29, and lost a couple of wickets.

Michael Hussey, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Fifteen balls into the match, Kane Richardson broke the six-run stand.

Wriddhiman Saha, whose 15-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 13. Nineteen balls later, he was trapped eg before wicket by Rahul Sharma, who broke the 22-run stand.

CSK scored 50 off 9.4 overs (58 balls). PWI had conceded an extra at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 43 balls. While Suresh Raina’s contribution to the partnership was 23, Subramaniam Badrinath’s contribution to it was 28. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

CSK scored 100 off 14.5 overs (89 balls). PWI had conceded three extras at that point.

Badrinath, whose 31-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, eventually scored (Smi)thirty-four. Fifty-nine balls after Saha’s dismissal, he was caught by Steven. Luke Wright broke the 75-run partnership.

Raina’s half-century – which included three boundaries and a six – came off 42 balls.

CSK scored 150 off 19 overs (114 balls). PWI had conceded four extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 25 balls. While Raina’s contribution to the partnership was 15, Dhoni’s contribution to it was 35. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Raina, whose 50-ball innings included five boundaries, in addition to the six, eventually scored 63. He was unbeaten, as was Dhoni, who eventually scored 45 off 16 balls, which included four boundaries and three sixes.

CSK scored 164 for the loss of three wickets off 20 overs.

Abhishek Nayar, who bowled three overs, conceded 23. He was wicketless, as were Ashok Dinda and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 41, the latter, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 24.

Wright, who bowled an over, conceded a dozen. He picked up a wicket, as did Richardson and Rahul, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 35, the latter conceded 27.

Aaron Finch, PWI’s skipper, scored 15 off (Dho)nine balls, including a couple of boundaries and a six. Eighteen balls into the match, he was caught by his opposite number. Mohit Sharma broke the 26-run stand.

The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Suman, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was trapped leg before wicket by Mohit.

The third-wicket pair put on three. Uthappa, whose 11-ball (Rob)innings included a boundary, scored 10. A couple of balls later, Raina ran him out.

Yuvraj Singh, whose four-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. (Dho)Nine balls later, he was caught behind. Mohit broke the 14-run stand.  

PWI scored 50 off seven overs (43 balls). CSK had conceded five extras at that point.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 11. Wright, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored a couple. Sixteen balls after Yuvraj’s dismissal, Albie ran him out.

The sixth-wicket pair had no reason to be in seventh heaven. Nayar, who faced four balls, scored a couple. Sixteen balls later, Albie and Ashwin ran him out.

Smith, whose 39-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 35. Thirty-one balls later, he was caught by Ravindra Jadeja, who broke the run-a-ball stand.

PWI scored 100 off as many balls (16.3 overs). CSK had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Richardson, whose 20-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 26. Twenty-six balls after Smith’s dismissal, he was caught by Raina. Chris Morris broke the run-a-ball stand.

Bhuvneshwar, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 24. He was unbeaten.

Rahul, who faced a ball, scored didn’t open his account. Five balls after Richardson’s dismissal, he was caught by Raina. Dwayne Br(av)oke the six-run stand.

Dinda, who faced a couple of balls, scored as many. He was unbeaten.

PWI, who scored 127 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs, lost by 37 runs.

Ashwin, who bowled two overs, conceded 20. He was wicketless, as was Albie, who bowled three overs, conceding 20.

Morris, who bowled three overs, conceded 21. He picked up a wicket, as did Jadeja and Bravo, who bowled four overs, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 26, the latter conceded 18.

Mohit, who bowled four overs, conceded 21. He picked up three scalps.
