RR made a couple of Cha(va)nges to their playing eleven – Sanju Samson and Sreesanth made way for Dishant Yagnik and Ankeet.
MI made no changes to their playing eleven.
On winning the toss, Rahul Dravid, RR’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of RR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 58, without the loss of
a wicket.
RR’s openers put on 50 off 5.3 overs (33 balls). MI had conceded a
couple of extras at that point. While Shane Watson’s contribution to the
partnership was 26, the contribution of Ajinkya Rahane, the player of the
match, to it was 22.
Watson, whose 25-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, eventually
scored 31. Forty-four balls into the match, he was caught by Dinesh Karthik.
Kieron Pollard broke the 62-run partnership.
RR scored 100 off 11.2 overs (68 balls). MI had conceded nine extras at
that point.
The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 68 balls. While Rahane’s
contribution to the partnership was a dozen, Yagnik’s contribution to it was 33.
Extras’ contribution to the partnership was five.
Yagnik, whose 24-ball (Sach)innings included four boundaries and a six, eventually
scored 34. Forty balls after Watson’s dismissal, he was caught by Tendulkar.
Harbhajan Singh broke the 53-run partnership.
The third-wicket pair put on 11. Stuart Binny, who faced four balls,
scored as many. Nine balls later, Mitchell Johnson and Pragyan Ojha ran him
out.
Rahane’s half-century – which included four boundaries and a six – came

contribution to the partnership was 24, Brad Hodge’s contribution to it was 27.

Rishi Dhawan, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 20. He was
wicketless, as were Johnson, Pragyan and Malinga, who bowled four overs apiece.

Pollard, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 24. He picked up a
wicket, as did Harbhajan, who bowled four overs, conceding 26.

later, Binny broke the five-run stand.
MI scored 50 off 11.1 overs (67 balls). RR had conceded half-a-dozen extras
at that point.
Karthik, whose 32-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 30.
Twenty-nine balls later, he was caught by James Faulkner. Hodge broke the
30-run stand.
Rishi, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. Four balls later, he
was caught by Faulkner. Binny broke the two-run stand.
The seventh-wicket pair put on a run. Harbhajan, who faced a ball,
scored a run. Three balls later, Dravid and Yagnik ran him out.
Johnson, whose nine-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored
11. Fourteen balls later, Faulkner broke the 19-run stand.
The ninth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Ambati Rayudu, whose
29-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 27. Half-a-dozen balls
later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Kevon Cooper.
Malinga, whose 11-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, had no
reason to be in seventh heaven – seven balls later, Faulkner broke the nine-run
stand.
Pragyan, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.
The number of extras they eventually conceded gave RR no reason to be in
seventh heaven.
MI, who were bundled out for 92 off 18.2 overs, lost by 87 runs.
Chavan, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 10.
Cooper, who bowled three overs, conceded 25. He picked up a wicket, as
did Trivedi, who bowled four overs, including a maiden. He conceded 17.
Chandila, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded half-a-dozen. He picked
up a couple of wickets, as did Binny, who bowled three overs, conceding 14.
Faulkner bowled 3.2 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 16, picking
up three scalps.
