On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 39, and lost a wicket.
Murali Vijay, whose 13-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 18.
Twenty-seven balls into the match, he was trapped leg before wicket by Morne
Morkel, who broke the 30-run stand.
CSK scored 50 off 7.1 overs (43 balls). DD had conceded a couple of
extras at that point.
The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 44 balls. While the contributions
of both Michael Hussey and Suresh Raina to the partnership were 24 apiece, extras’
contribution to the partnership was four.
Raina, whose 32-ball innings included five boundaries, eventually scored
30. Fifty balls after Vijay’s dismissal, he was caught by Kedar Jadhav. Irfan Pathan
broke the 60-run partnership.
CSK scored 100 off 13.5 overs (83 balls). DD had conceded five extras at
that point.
Michael Hussey’s half-century – which included three boundaries and a couple
of sixes – came off 41 balls.
The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 27 balls. While Michael Hussey’s
contribution to the partnership was 19, Dhoni’s contribution to it was 31.
Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.
CSK scored 150 off 18 overs (108 balls). DD had conceded half-a-dozen extras
at that point.
Dhoni, whose 23-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, eventually
scored 44. Forty balls after Raina’s dismissal, he was caught by Jeevan. Umesh
Yadav broke the 74-run partnership.
The fourth-wicket pair put on five. Dwayne Bravo, who faced two balls,
scored three. Three balls later, Jeevan and Jadhav ran him out.
Michael Hussey, whose 50-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries,
in addition to the aforementioned number of sixes, eventually scored 65. He was
unbeaten.
CSK scored 169 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.
Virender Sehwag bowled a wicketless over, conceding nine.
Shahbaz Nadeem bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 22.
Agarkar bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 29.
Morne, Umesh and Irfan bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket
apiece. They conceded 42, 33, and 30, respectively.

DD scored 50 off 9.1 overs (55 balls). CSK had conceded four extras at that
point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.
The fifth-wicket pair put on 31. Mendis, who faced 17 balls, scored a
dozen. Thirty-one balls after Sehwag’s dismissal, Raina and Ravindra Jadeja ran
him out.
Irfan, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored a couple. A dozen balls
later, he was caught by Bravo. Needless to say, Jadeja was in seventh heaven.
Agarkar had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just three.
Nine balls later, he was caught by Bravo. Ravichandran Ashwin broke the
five-run stand.
Morne, who faced four balls, scored a couple. Nine balls later, Ashwin was
in seventh heaven.
Jadhav, whose 28-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 31. Five
balls later, he was caught by Bravo. Albie Morkel broke the two-run stand.
Although Nadeem was unbeaten, he had no reason to be in seventh heaven –
he was unbeaten.
Umesh, who faced five balls, scored a run. Eight balls after Jadhav’s
dismissal, he was caught by Raina. Bravo broke the one-run stand.
DD, who were bundled out of 83 off 17.3 overs, lost by 86 runs.
Bravo, who bowled nine balls, scored eight. He picked up a wicket.
Morris, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 13. He picked up a
wicket.
Albie, who bowled three overs, conceded 13. He picked up a wicket.
Jadeja, who bowled four overs, conceded 21. He picked up a wicket.
Ashwin, who bowled four overs, conceded 18. He picked up a couple of wickets.
Mohit, who bowled three overs, conceded 10. He picked up three scalps.
