Gambhir shines; KKR beat Hyderabad

KKR made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Ryan McLaren and Pradeep Sangwan made way for Laxmi Ratan Shukla and Sachithra Senanayake.

SRH (Shar)made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Akshath Reddy and Anand Rajan made way for Dwaraka Ravi Teja and Karn.

On winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper and the player of the match, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 48, without the loss of a wicket.

KKR’s openers put on 50 off 6.4 overs (40 balls). SRH had conceded three extras at that point. While Manvinder Bisla’s contribution to the partnership was 27, Gambhir’s contribution to it was 23.

Bisla, whose 24-ball innings included five boundaries, eventually scored 28. Forty-six balls into the (Hanu)match, he was caught by Vihari. Karn broke the 59-run partnership.

Gambhir’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six – came off 39 balls.

KKR scored 100 off 13.2 overs (80 balls). SRH had conceded four extras at that point.

Gambhir eventually scored 53 off 45 balls. Thirty-six balls after Bisla’s dismissal, Ashish Reddy broke the 43-run stand.

KKR scored 150 off 17.4 overs (106 balls). SRH had conceded five extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 24 balls. While Jacques Kallis’ contribution to the partnership was a dozen, Eoin Morgan’s contribution to it was 36. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

The third-wicket pair eventually put on 67. Morgan, whose 21-ball innings included five boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 47. Thirty balls after Gambhir’s dismissal, Dale Steyn ran him out.

The fourth-wicket pair put on (Pat)eleven. Kallis, whose 27-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries, eventually scored 41. Eight balls later, Amit Mishra and Parthiv ran him out.

Yusuf Pathan, who faced three balls, scored as many. He was unbeaten.

SRH eventually conceded eight extras. KKR scored 180 for the loss of four extras off 20 overs.

Vihari, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 14.

Mishra, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 28.

Thisara Perera, Ishant Sharma and Steyn bowled four wicketless overs apiece. They conceded 44, 33, and 29, respectively.

Ashish and Karn bowled a couple of overs each, picking up a scalp apiece. While the former conceded 15, the latter conceded 13.

White, whose 31-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, eventually scored 34. Nine balls later, he was caught by Yusuf. Kallis broke the 11-run stand.

Kumar Sangakkara, SRH’s skipper, faced three balls, scoring a couple. Four balls later, he was caught by Manoj Tiwary. Rajat Bhatia broke the three-run stand.

SRH scored 100 off 14.2 overs (86 balls). KKR had conceded eight extras at that point.

Ravi Teja, who faced 13 balls, scored 10. Twenty-six balls after Sangakkara’s dismissal, he was caught by Tiwary. Sunil Narine broke the 36-run stand.

Ashish Reddy, who faced five balls, scored four. Nine balls later, Senanayake broke the eight-run stand.

Karn, who faced nine balls, scored five. He was unbeaten.

Thisara, whose 25-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 36. Ten balls after Ashish Reddy’s dismissal, Kallis broke the nine-ball stand.

Vihari, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Five balls later, he was caught by Tiwary. Bhatia broke the three-run stand.

Mishra, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

KKR eventually conceded a dozen extras. SRH, who scored 132 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs, lost by 48 runs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Lakshmipathy Balaji, who conceded 30, was wicketless.

Narine and Senanayake picked up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 31, the latter conceded 18.

Bhatia, who conceded 33, picked up a couple of wickets.

Kallis, who conceded 13, picked up three scalps.
