Kolkata lose to Dravid-led RR

RR made three changes to their playing (Samu)eleven – Kusal Perera, Ashok Menaria, and Badree made way for Shane Watson, Dishant Yagnik, and Shaun Tait.

KKR made one change to their playing eleven – Lakshmipathy Balaji made way for Mohammed Shami.

On winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of RR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 35, and lost a wicket.

Watson, whose 10-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Fifteen balls (Eo)into the match, he was caught by Morgan. Brett Lee broke the 11-run stand.

Rahul Dravid, RR’s skipper, scored 17 off 20 balls, which included a couple of boundaries. Thirty-two balls later, Rajat Bhatia broke the 35-run stand.

RR scored 50 off nine overs (54 balls). KKR had conceded three extras at that point.

Stuart Binny, whose 11-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 14. Fourteen balls after Dravid’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Laxmi Ratan Shukla, who broke the 17-run stand.

RR scored 100 off 15 overs (90 balls). KKR had conceded four extras at that point.

Ajinkya Rahane, whose 34-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 36. Thirty-one balls later, he was caught by Manvinder Bisla. Sunil Narine broke the 38-run stand.

Brad Hodge, whose 31-ball innings included seven boundaries, scored 46. He was unbeaten.

The fifth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Kevon Cooper, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls (Bis)later, he was stumped off the bowling of Narine.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 26. Yagnik, whose 11-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 16. Twenty-two balls (Bis)later, Shami and the wicketkeeper ran him out.

Sreesanth, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

KKR eventually conceded nine extras. RR scored 144 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.

Shami, who bowled three overs, conceded 26. He was wicketless, as was Jacques Kallis, who bowled four overs, conceding 28.

Laxmi Ratan Shukla, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 14. He picked up a wicket.

Bhatia, who bowled three overs, conceded 21. He picked up a wicket.

Lee, who bowled four overs, conceded 20. He picked up a wicket.

Narine, who bowled four overs, conceded 28. He picked up a couple of scalps.

Bisla, who faced four balls, scored a run. Fourteen balls into the chase, Rahul Shukla broke the 19-run stand.

Kallis, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. The next ball, he was caught by Yagnik. Rahul Shukla broke the one-run stand.

Twenty-seven balls (4.3 overs) into the match, there was milestone – Manoj Tiwary scored his 1,000th IPL run.

Tiwary, whose 13-ball innings included a boundary, scored 14. Twenty-two balls after Kallis’ dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Siddharth Trivedi, the player of the match, who broke the 20-run stand.

Gambhir, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 22. Four balls later, he was caught by Yagnik. Trivedi broke the three-run stand.

Yusuf Pathan, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. Four balls later, he was caught by Yagnik. Cooper broke the one-run stand.

KKR scored 50 off 8.4 overs (52 balls). RR had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Laxmi Ratan, who faced nine balls, scored just a couple. Twenty-one balls after Yusuf’s dismissal, he was caught by his namesake, Rahul. Trivedi broke the 12-run stand.

Although his innings included a couple of boundaries, Bhatia had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored a dozen. Nineteen balls later, he was caught by Binny. Tait broke the 34-run stand.

KKR scored 100 off 15.2 overs (92 balls). RR had conceded 11 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Morgan’s half-century – which included three boundaries and as many sixes – came off 35 balls.

Lee, whose six-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Eight balls after Bhatia’s dismissal, he was caught by Rahul Shukla. Sreesanth broke the 13-run stand.

Morgan eventually scored 51 off 38 balls. Nineteen balls later, Cooper broke the run-a-ball stand.

Shami, who faced 10 balls, scored five. Five balls later, he was caught by Rahane. Cooper broke the three-run stand

Narine, who faced two balls, scored as many. He was unbeaten.

KKR, who were dismissed for 125 off 19 overs, lost by 19 runs.

Tait and Sreesanth bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 29, the latter conceded 25.

Rahul Shukla, who bowled three overs, conceded 28. He picked up a couple of wickets.

Trivedi and Cooper bowled four overs each, picking up three scalps apiece. While the former conceded 23, the latter conceded 15.
