DD made three changes to their playing (Mork)eleven – Manprit Juneja, Jeevan
Mendis, and Morne made way for Venugopal Rao, Reolof van der Merwe, and Andre Russell.
On winning the toss, Ricky Ponting, MI’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 24, and lost a couple
of wickets.
Smith, whose 12-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. Twenty
balls into the match, he was caught by Umesh Yadav. Van der Merwe broke the
11-run stand.
The second-wicket pair put on 11. Dinesh Karthik, who faced half-a-dozen
balls, scored just a couple. Eleven balls later, Umesh ran him out.
MI scored 50 off 8.5 overs (53 balls). DD hadn’t conceded any extras at
that point.
The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 39 balls. While Sachin Tendulkar’s
contribution to the partnership was 26, Rohit Sharma’s contribution to it was 24.
Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.
MI scored 100 off 14.2 overs (86 balls). DD had conceded an extra at
that point.
Rohit’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a couple of sixes –
came off 31 balls.
Tendulkar’s half-century – which included three boundaries and a couple of sixes
– came off 43 balls.
Tendulkar eventually scored 54 off 47 balls. Sixty-seven balls after Dinesh’s
dismissal, he was caught by David Warner. Umesh broke the 96-run partnership.
Rohit, whose 43-ball innings included the aforementioned number of
boundaries, in addition to five sixes, eventually scored 73. Sixteen balls
later, he was caught by Russell. Umesh broke the 31-run stand.
MI scored 150 off 19.1 overs (115 balls). DD had conceded three extras
at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Kieron Pollard, whose innings included a boundary and a six, scored 19.
He was unbea‘ten’.
Ambati Rayudu, who faced a couple of balls, scored as many. He was
unbeaten.
MI scored 161 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.
Russell, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 13.
Ajit Agarkar, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 37.
Irfan Pathan and Shahbaz Nadeem bowled four wicketless overs apiece.
While the former conceded 24, the latter conceded 20.
Van der Merwe, who bowled four overs, conceded 35. He picked up a
wicket.
Umesh, who bowled four overs, conceded 31. He picked up a couple of
scalps.

DD’s openers scored 100 off 9.4 overs (60 balls). MI had conceded a
couple of extras at that point. While Jayawardene’s contribution to the
partnership was 41, Sehwag’s contribution to it was 57.
Jayawardene’s half-century – which included seven boundaries and a six –
came off 34 balls.
DD’s openers scored 100 off 15.3 overs (95 balls). MI had conceded a
couple of extras at that point. While Jayawardene’s contribution to the
partnership was 59, Sehwag’s contribution to it was 89.
Jayawardene did not add to the aforementioned score. His 43-ball innings
included eight boundaries, in addition to the six. Ninety-seven balls into the
chase, he was trapped leg before wicket by Lasith Malinga, who broke the
151-run partnership.
Sehwag, whose 57-ball innings included 13 boundaries, in addition to the
aforementioned number of sixes, eventually scored 95. He was unbeaten, as was Warner,
who had a reason to be in seventh heaven – his five-ball innings included a six.
MI eventually conceded four extras. DD, who scored 165 for the loss of a
wicket off 17 overs, won by nine wickets with three overs to spare.
Pollard, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 11.
Smith, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 24.
Bumrah and Harbhajan Singh bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While
the former conceded 38, the latter conceded 30.
Munaf, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 36.
Malinga, who bowled four overs, conceded 26. He picked up the only
wicket to fall.
