Pune disappointed; Gilchrist-led KXIP triumph

KXIP made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Paul Valthaty and Dimitri Mascarenhas made way for David Miller, the player of the match, and Parvinder Awana.

PWI made four changes to their playing eleven – Tirumalasetti Suman, Angelo Mathews, Mitchell Marsh, and Manish Pandey made way for Yuvraj Singh, Luke Wright, Mithun Manhas, and Ajantha Mendis.

On winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist, KXIP’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of PWI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 48, without the loss of a wicket.

PWI’s openers scored 50 off 6.1 overs (37 balls). KXIP had conceded a couple of extras at that point. While Robin’s contribution to the (Uthap)partnership was 19, the contribution of Aaron Finch, PWI’s skipper, to it was 31.

Finch’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 33 balls.

Uthappa, whose 33-ball innings included four boundaries, eventually scored 37. Sixty-three balls into the match, he was caught by Gilchrist. Awana broke the 83-run partnership.

PWI scored 100 off 12.4 overs (76 balls). KXIP had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Finch eventually scored 64 off 42 balls, which included eight boundaries, in addition to the aforementioned number of sixes. Twenty-eight balls after Uthappa’s dismissal, he was caught by Manan Vohra. Manpreet Gony broke the 41-run stand.

Yuvraj, whose 24-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and three sixes, scored 34. A dozen balls later, he was caught by Gurkeerat Singh Mann. Azhar Mahmood broke the 18-run stand.

PWI scored 150 off 17.4 overs (106 balls). KXIP had conceded five extras at that point.

Steven Smith, who faced nine balls, scored half-a-dozen. He was unbeaten.

Wright, whose 10-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six, scored 34. Thirteen balls after Yuvraj’s dismissal, he was caught by David Hussey. Mahmood broke the 38-run stand.

Abhishek Nayar, who faced a couple of balls, scored as many. He was unbeaten.

KXIP eventually conceded eight extras. PWI scored 185 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Praveen Kumar, whose spell included a maiden, and Piyush were wicketless. While the former conceded 36, the (Chaw)latter conceded 33.

Awana and Gony picked up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 38, the latter conceded 32.

Mahmood conceded 42, picking up a couple of scalps.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 55, and lost a couple of wickets.

Gilchrist, who faced three balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Three balls into the chase, he was caught by Uthappa. Bhuvneshwar Kumar broke the four-run stand.

Mahmood, who faced four balls, didn’t get off the mark. He was trapped leg be‘four’ wicket by Mendis, who broke the one-run stand.

KXIP scored 50 off 5.4 overs (34 balls). PWI had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 29 balls. While Mandeep Singh’s contribution to the partnership was 29, Vohra’s contribution to it was 20. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Vohra, whose 13-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 22. Thirty-three balls after Mahmood’s dismissal, Yuvraj broke the 53-run partnership.

KXIP scored 100 off 11.3 overs (69 balls). PWI had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 35 balls. While Mandeep’s contribution to the partnership was 17, Miller’s contribution to it was 34. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Mandeep’s half-century – which included five boundaries – came off 39 balls.

Miller’s half-century – which included three boundaries and as many sixes – came off 29 balls.

KXIP scored 150 off 17.2 overs (104 balls). PWI had conceded three extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 100 off 69 balls. While Mandeep’s contribution to the partnership was 43, Miller’s contribution to it was 59. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Mandeep, whose 58-ball innings included seven boundaries, eventually scored 77. He was unbeaten, as was Miller, who eventually scored 80 off 41 balls, which included five boundaries and as many sixes.

KXIP, who scored 186 for the loss of three wickets off 19.5 overs, lost by seven wickets with a ball to spare.

Wright bowled 2.5 wicketless overs, conceding 35.

Rahul Sharma bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 38.

Ashok Dinda bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 37.

Yuvraj bowled a couple of overs, conceding 15. He picked up a wicket, as did Mendis and Bhuvneshwar, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 38, the latter conceded 31.
