Punjab disappointed; White-led SRH win

KXIP (Shar)made three (Pomersba)changes to their playing eleven – David Hussey, Manpreet Gony, and Bipul (Shar)made way for Luke, Harmeet Singh, and Sandeep.

SRH made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Kumar Sangakkara and Ashish Eeddy made way for Cameron White (who was leading the team) and Biplab Samantray.

On winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist, KXIP’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of SRH’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 37, and lost a couple of wickets.

Shikhar Dhawan, whose 14-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 15. Twenty-five balls into the match, he was caught by Harmeet, who broke the 28-run stand.

Although his innings included a boundary, Hanuma Vihari had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored five. Eight balls later, he was caught by David Miller. Sandeep broke the five-run stand.

SRH scored 50 off 7.2 overs (44 balls). KXIP had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

White, whose eight-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 10. Fourteen balls after Vihari’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Sandeep, who broke the 18-run stand.

The fourth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Samantray, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was dismissed by Sandeep.

Daren Sammy, who faced three balls, didn’t get off the mark. He was trapped leg be‘four’ wicket by Piyush Chawla, who broke the two-run stand.

Karn Sharma, whose 18-ball innings included a couple od boundaries and a six, scored 22. Thirty-seven balls later, he was caught by Gilchrist. Parvinder Awana broke the 42-run stand.

SRH scored 100 off 15.4 overs (94 balls). KXIP had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Parthiv Patel, the player of the match, scored 50 off 44 balls, which included four boundaries and a six.

The seventh-wicket pair put on 48. Parthiv, whose 47-ball innings included five boundaries and a couple of sixes, scored 61. Twenty-five balls after Karn’s dismissal, Sathish and Harmeet ran him out.

Thisara Perera, whose 19-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, scored 32. He was unbeaten, as was Dale Steyn, who faced three balls, scoring a run.

SRH scored 150 (for the loss of seven wickets) off 20 overs (120 balls). KXIP had conceded four extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Praveen Kumar, who conceded 32, was wicketless.

Harmeet, Awana and Chawla picked up a wicket apiece. They conceded 39, 35, and 20, respectively.

Sandeep conceded 21, picking up three scalps.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 41, and lost a wicket.

Mandeep Singh, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. Five balls into the chase, he was caught by White. Steyn broke the one-run stand.

Shaun Marsh, whose 20-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 18. Thirty-eight balls later, he was caught by Thisara. Sammy broke the 44-run stand.

The third-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Gilchrist, whose 22-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 26. The next ball, he was dismissed by Sammy.

KXIP scored 50 off 7.4 overs (46 balls). SRH had conceded an extra at that point.

Although his innings included a boundary, Miller had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored half-a-dozen. Fourteen balls after Gilchrist’s dismissal, he was caught by White. Sammy broke the six-run stand.

KXIP scored 100 off 16.3 overs (99 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave SRH no reason to be in seventh heaven.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 42 balls. While Pomersbach’s contribution to the partnership was 20, Sathish’s contribution to it was 24. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was half-a-dozen.

Pomersbach, whose 40-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 33. He was unbeaten.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 51. Sathish, whose 18-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 25. Forty-three balls after Miller’s dismissal, Thisara and Parthiv ran him out.

Chawla, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. Three balls later, he was caiht by Dhawan. Thisara broke the one-run stand.

Praveen, who faced three balls, scored a run. Five balls later, Steyn broke the four-run stand.

The eighth-wicket pair put on five. Harmeet, who faced four balls, scored three. Half-a-dozen balls later, Ishant Sharma and Sammy ran him out.

Awana, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. Three balls later, he was caught by Ishant. Needless to say, Sammy was in seventh heaven.

Sandeep, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. He was unbeaten.

SRH eventually conceded eight extras. KXIP, who scored 120 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs, lost by 30 runs.

Karn bowled a wicketless over, conceding half-a-dozen.

Mishra and Vihari bowled a couple of wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 20, the latter conceded five.

Ishant bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 22.

Thisara bowled four overs, conceding 19. He picked up a wicket.

Steyn bowled four overs, conceding 20. He picked up a couple of wickets.

Sammy bowled four overs, conceding 22. He picked up four scalps.
