Rohit-led MI ‘sa(a)t(h)’isfied; Chennai lose

MI made one change to their playing eleven – Dhawal Kulkarni made way for Pawan Suyal.

CSK made a couple of changes to their playing (Mork)eleven – Wriddhiman Saha and Albie made way for Murali Vijay and Ben Laughlin.

On winning the toss, Rohit Sharma, MI’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 32, without the loss of a wicket.

Tendulkar, whose 18-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 15. Forty-one ballS(ach)into the match, he was trapped leg before wicket by Ravindra Jadeja, who broke the 40-run stand.

Dwayne Smith, whose 24-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 22. Five balls later, his namesake and fellow West Indian, Dwayne, Br(av)oke the two-run stand.

Kieron Pollard, who faced three balls, scored a run. Nine balls later, he was caught by Suresh Raina. Jadeja broke the three-run stand.

MI scored 50 off 10.4 overs (64 balls). CSK had conceded three extras at that point.

Dinesh Karthik, whose run-a-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 23. Sixteen balls after Pollard’s dismissal, he was caught by Raina. Jadeja broke the 21-run stand.

Ambati Rayudu, whose 11-ball innings included a boundary, scored 10. Twenty balls later, Ravichandran Ashwin broke the 16-run stand.

MI scored 100 off 17.2 overs (104 balls). CSK had conceded three extras at that point.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 50 off 27 balls. While Rohit’s contribution to the partnership was 31, Harbhajan Singh’s contribution to it was 19. Extras/ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Rohit, whose 30-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, eventually scored 39. He was unbeaten, as was Harbhajan, who eventually scored 25 off 11 balls, which included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes.  

CSK eventually conceded four extras. MI scored 139 for loss of five wickets off 20 overs.

Chris Morris bowled three overs, conceding 14. He was wicketless, as was Laughlin and Mohit Sharma, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 46, the latter conceded 20.

Ashwin bowled two overs, conceding 11. He picked up a wicket, as did Bravo, who bowled three overs, conceding 19.

Jadeja bowled four overs, conceding 29. He picked up three scalps.

Vijay, who faced a couple of balls, scored a couple. Thirteen balls into the chase, Mitchell Johnson, the player of the match, broke the nine-run stand.

The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Raina, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was caught by Pollard off the bowling of Johnson.

The third-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Subramaniam Badrinath, who faced three balls, didn’t open his account. Three balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Johnson.

Although his innings included a couple of boundaries, Bravo had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored nine. Seven balls later, he was caught by Rayudu. Suyal broke the nine-run stand.

Ashwin, who faced eight balls, scored just a couple. Sixteen balls later, Harbhajan broke the run-a-ball stand.

Michael Hussey, whose 26-ball innings included a boundary and the only six of the innings, scored 22. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Smith. Pragyan broke the sixth-wicket stand, which was worth (Oj)half-a-dozen.

CSK scored 50 off 10.1 overs (61 balls). MI had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, scored 10 off a dozen balls, which included a boundary. Thirteen balls after Michael Hussey’s dismissal, he was caught by Pollard. Pragyan broke the 12-run stand.

Morris, who faced four balls, scored a run. Five balls later, Lasith Malinga broke the two-run stand.

The ninth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Mohit, who faced three balls, didn’t open gis account. Three balls later, he was caught by Suyal off the bowling of Malinga.

Jadeja, whose 16-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 20. Sixteen balls later, he was caught by Rayudu. Pragyan broke the 25-run stand.

Laughlin, who faced eight balls, scored four. He was unbeaten.

MI eventually conceded nine extras. CSK, who were bundled out for 79 off 15.2 overs lost by 60 runs.

Suyal, who bowled three overs, conceded 21. He picked up a wicket, as did Harbhajan, who bowled four overs, conceding 13.

Malinga, who bowled three overs, conceded half-a-dozen. He picked up a couple of scalps.

Pragyan, who bowled 2.2 overs, conceded 11. He picked up three scalps, as did Johnson, who bowled three overs, conceding 27.
