DD made three changes to their playing (Mork)eleven – Johan Botha, Kedar
Jadhav, and Roelof van der Merwe made way for Mahela Jayawardene (who was
leading the team, and chose to field on winning the toss), Chidhambaram Gautam,
and Morne.
The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory
Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 53, without
the loss of a wicket.
KXIP’s openers put on 50 off 5.4 overs (34 balls). DD had conceded a
couple of extras at that point. While the contribution of Adam Gilchrist,
KXIP’s skipper, to the partnership was 36, Shaun Marsh’s contribution to it was

Gilchrist, whose 26-ball innings included five boundaries and a couple
of sixes, eventually scored 42. Forty-five balls into the match, he was caught
by Irfan Pathan, who broke the 60-run partnership.
Azhar Mahmood, whose 13-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine.
Twenty-four balls later, he was caught by Siddarth Kaul. Ashish Nehra broke the
26-run stand.
