Gilchrist-led KXIP leave Delhi disappointed

KXIP made one change to their playing eleven – Manpreet Gony made way for Praveen Kumar.

DD made three changes to their playing (Mork)eleven – Johan Botha, Kedar Jadhav, and Roelof van der Merwe made way for Mahela Jayawardene (who was leading the team, and chose to field on winning the toss), Chidhambaram Gautam, and Morne.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 53, without the loss of a wicket.

KXIP’s openers put on 50 off 5.4 overs (34 balls). DD had conceded a couple of extras at that point. While the contribution of Adam Gilchrist, KXIP’s skipper, to the partnership was 36, Shaun Marsh’s contribution to it was 14.

Gilchrist, whose 26-ball innings included five boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 42. Forty-five balls into the match, he was caught by Irfan Pathan, who broke the 60-run partnership.

The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 21, and lost three wickets.

Although his eight-ball innings included a six, Unmukt Chand had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 16 balls into the chase, Praveen broke the 11-run stand.

Irfan had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just a run. Seven balls later, he was caught by Gilchrist. Sandeep Sharma broke the one-run stand.

The third-wicket pair D(av)idn’t get off the mark. Warner, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was caught by Gilchrist off the bowling of Sandeep.

DD scored 50 off 9.2 overs (56 balls). KXIP had conceded 10 extras at that point.

Virender Sehwag, whose 22-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries, scored 30. Forty-one balls after Warner’s dismissal, he was caught by Gilchrist. Parvinder Awana broke the 49-run stand.
