Mumbai disappointed; Gilchrist-led KXIP triumph

KXIP made one change to their playing eleven – Rajagopal Sathish made way for Gurkeerat Singh Mann.

MI made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Mitchell Johnson and Pragyan Ojha made way for Rishi Dhawan and Nathan Coulter-Nile.

On winning the toss, Rohit Sharma, MI’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 35, and lost a couple of wickets.

Mandeep Singh, who faced five balls, scored a run. Ten balls into the match, he was caught by Kieron Pollard. Rishi broke the two-run stand.

Although his innings included a boundary, Adam Gilchrist had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored five. Four balls later, Coulter-Nile broke the run-a-ball stand.

KXIP scored 50 off 7.2 overs (44 balls). MI had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 32 balls. While the contribution of Azhar Mahmood, the player of the match, to the partnership was 16, Shaun Marsh’s contribution to it was 34. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Marsh’s half-century – which included nine boundaries – came off 39 balls.

KXIP scored 100 off 12.4 overs (76 balls). MI had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 100 off 63 balls. While Mahmood’s contribution to the partnership was 49, Marsh’s contribution to it was 50. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Mahmood’s half-century – which included five boundaries and three sixes – came off 27 balls.

KXIP scored 150 off 16.2 overs (98 balls). MI had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Marsh, whose 47-ball innings included 11 boundaries, eventually scored 63. Eighty-six balls after Gilchrist’s dismissal, Harbhajan Singh broke the 148-run partnership.

Mahmood, whose 44-ballinnings included eight boundaries and four sixes, eventually scored 80. He was trapped leg be‘four’ wicket by Lasith Malinga, who broke the two-run stand.

David Miller, whose five-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Ten balls later, he was caught by Coulter-Nile. Pollard broke the 18-run stand.

Manan Vohra, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 20. He was unbeaten.

The sixth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Mann, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. A ball after Miller’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Malinga.

The seventh-wicket pair put on nine. Piyush, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Four balls (Chaw)later, Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik ran him out.

The eighth-wicket pair didn’t get off the (Ku)mark. Praveen, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was dismissed by Malinga.

The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave MI no reason to be in seventh heaven.

KXIP scored 183 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs.

Rohit, who bowled a couple of wicketless balls, conceded a run.

Dhawal Kulkarni, who bowled four wicketless balls, conceded a dozen. 

Maxwell, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 18.

Pollard, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 22. He picked up a wicket, as did Harbhajan, Coulter-Nile and Rishi, who bowled four overs apiece. Rishi’s spell included a maiden. They conceded 33, 29, and 26, respectively.

Malinga, who bowled four overs, conceded 29. He picked up three scalps.    

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 51, and lost a couple of wickets.

MI’s openers didn’t get off the mark. Maxwell, who faced three balls, didn’t get off the mark. Three balls into the chase, he was caught by Vohra off the bowling of Praveen.

Aditya Tare, whose 12-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, scored 22. Twenty balls later, Sandeep Sharma broke the 27-run stand.

MI scored 50 off 5.5 overs (35 balls). KXIP had conceded three extras at that point.

Ambati Rayudu, whose 22-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 26. Twenty-nine balls after Tare’s dismissal, he was caught by Gilchrist. Parvinder Awana broke the 35-run stand.

Dinesh, who faced three balls, didn’t get off the mark. Five balls later, Chawla had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he caught him off his own bowling.

Rohit, whose run-a-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 25. Fifteen balls later, Chawla broke the nine-run stand.

MI scored 100 off 14.3 overs (87 balls). KXIP had conceded four extras at that point.

Pollard, whose 21-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 22. Four overs after Rohit’s dismissal, he was caught by Miller. Sandeep broke the 39-run stand.

Rishi, whose 15-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 14. Five balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Azhar Mahmood, who broke the two-run stand.

Coulter-Nile, whose six-ball innings included a six, scored nine. Nine balls later, Mahmood broke the 12-run stand.

Harbhajan, who faced eight balls, scored five. Five balls later, he was caught by Mann. Gilchrist broke the two-run stand.

In the last over of the chase, Praveen kept wickets in place of Gilchrist.

Malinga, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

Kulkarni was absent hurt.

KXIP eventually conceded nine extras. MI, who were dismissed for 133 off 19.1 overs, lost by 50 runs.

Gilchrist, who bowled a ball, picked up a wicket.

Praveen, who bowled three overs, conceded 15. He picked up a wicket.

Awana, who bowled four overs, conceded 29. He picked up a wicket.

Sandeep, Mahmood and Chawla bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of scalps apiece. They conceded 39, 24, and 20, respectively.
