White-led SRH advance; Kolkata eliminated

SRH made one change to their playing eleven – Ishant (Shar)made way for Anand Rajan.

KKR made five changes to their playing eleven – Manoj Tiwary, Debabrata Das, Rajat Bhatia, Sachithra Senanayake, and Lakshmipathy Balaji made way for Eoin Morgan, Paras Dogra, Iqbal Abdulla, Pradeep Sangwan, and Mohammed Shami.

On winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 33, and lost a wicket.

Manvinder Bisla, whose 18-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 15. Twenty-seven balls into the match, he was caught by Cameron White, SRH’s skipper. Thisara Perera broke the 25-run stand.

The second-wicket pair put on 17. Gambhir, who faced 17 balls, scored 10. Sixteen balls later, Biplab Samantray and Parthiv Patel, the player of the match, ran him out.

KKR scored 50 off 8.1 overs (49 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave SRH no reason to be in seventh heaven.

Morgan, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine. Twenty-one balls after Gambhir’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Karn Sharma, who broke the 17-run stand.

Jacques Kallis, whose 29-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 24. Twenty-seven balls later, he was caught by Shikhar Dhawan. Dale Steyn broke the 30-run stand.

Yusuf Pathan, whose 29-ball innings included three boundaries and as many sixes, scored 49. He was unbeaten.

Ryan ten Doeschate, who faced five balls, scored a run. Half-a-dozen balls after Kallis’ dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Amit Mishra, who broke the run-a-ball stand.

KKR scored 100 off 17 overs (102 balls). SRH had conceded 12 extras at that point.

Paras Dogra, who faced eight balls, scored five. A dozen balls after ten Doeschate’s dismissal, he ws caught by Thisara. Steyn broke the 16-run stand.

Sunil Narine, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Thisara. Rajan broke the 10-run stand.

Abdulla, who faced three balls, scored a couple. He was unbeaten.

SRH eventually conceded 14 extras. KKR scored 130 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs.

Daren Sammy, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded nine.

Karn, who bowled three overs, conceded 15. He picked up a wicket, as did Thisara, Rajan and Mishra, who bowled four overs apiece. They conceded 33, 22, and 20, respectively.

Steyn, who bowled four overs, conceded 24. He picked up a couple of scalps.

The first Powerplay of SRH’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 45, without the loss of a wicket.

SRH’s openers put on 50 off 7.2 overs (44 balls). KKR had a couple of extras at that point. While Parthiv’s contribution to the partnership was 33, Shikhar’s contribution to it was 15.

Nine overs into the chase, there was a milestone – Shikhar scored his 200th IPL boundary.

Shikhar, whose 35-ball innings included three boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 42. Sixty-nine balls into the chase, he was trapped leg before wicket by Abdulla, who broke the 89-run partnership.

SRH scored 100 off 13.2 overs (80 balls). KKR had conceded eight extras at that point.

Parthiv, whose 37-ball innings included seven boundaries, eventually scored 47. A dozen balls after Shikhar’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Abdulla, who broke the 11-run stand.

The third-wicket pair put on three. White, who faced four balls, scored a couple. Five balls later, Morgan and Bisla ran him out.

Hanuma Vihari, who faced 13 balls, scored just half-a-dozen. Seven balls later, he was caught by Dogra. Abdulla broke the five-run stand.

Thisara, who faced 10 balls, scored just four. Fourteen balls later, Shami broke the four-run stand.

Sammy, whose 12-ball innings included a couple of sixes, scored 17. He was unbeaten, as was Samantray, who scored five. His two-ball innings included a boundary.

KKR eventually conceded nine extras. SRH, who scored 132 for the loss of five wickets off 18.5 overs, had a reason to be in seventh heaven – they won by five wickets.

Kallis, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 13.

Sangwan, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 17.

Yusuf and Narine bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 29, the latter, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 11.

Shami, who bowled four overs, conceded 32. He picked up a wicket.

Abdulla, who bowled 3.5 overs, conceded 29. He picked up three scalps.

While KKR were eliminated, SRH advanced to the playoffs.
