Chennai disappointed; Virat-led RCB win

CSK made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Faf du Plessis and Vijay Shankar made way for David Hussey and Mithun Manhas.

RCB made one change to their playing eleven –Vijay Zol made way for Varun Aaron.

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the fifth over. They scored 39, and lost a couple of wickets.

Brendon McCullum, whose 13-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, scored 19. Twenty-six balls into the match, he was caught by Mitchell Starc. Aaron broke the 29-run stand.

The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Dwayne Smith, whose 15-ball innings included A Boundary, scored nine. The next ball, he was caught by de Villiers, the player of the match, off the bowling of Aaron.

CSK scored 50 off as many balls (8.2 overs). RCB had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 45 balls. While Suresh Raina’s contribution to the partnership was 32, David Hussey’s contribution to it was 20. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was two.

CSK scored 100 off 14 overs (84 balls). RCB had conceded three extras at that point.

Raina’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six – came off 35 balls.

He eventually scored 62 off 48 balls, and was unbeaten.

David, whose 29-ball innings included a boundary and a six, eventually scored 25. Fifty-nine balls after Dwayne’s dismissal, he was caught by Starc. Muttiah Muralitharan broke the 75-run partnership.

Although his innings included a boundary, Dhoni, who faced half-a-dozen balls, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 11 balls later, he was caught by Chris Gayle. Abu Nechim broke the run-a-ball stand.

Ravindra Jadeja, who faced nine balls, was unbea‘ten’.

RCB eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. CSK scored 138 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.

Sachin Rana, who bowled an over, conceded nine. He was wicketless, as were Yuzvendra Chahal and Starc, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 27, the latter conceded 23.

Muralitharan and Nechim bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 29, the latter conceded 18.

Aaron, who bowled three overs, conceded 29. He picked up a couple of scalps.

Parthiv Patel, whose 14-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 10. Twenty-one balls into the chase, he was caught by Raina. Ravichandran Ashwin broke the 14-run stand.

RCB scored 50 off 10.2 overs (62 balls). CSK had conceded eight extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 49 balls. While the contributions of Gayle and Virat Kohli, RCB’s skipper, to the partnership were 21 apiece, extras’ contribution to the partnership was eight.

Kohli, whose 29-ball innings included a boundary and a six, eventually scored 27. Sixty-four balls after Parthiv’s dismissal, he was stumped by Dhoni. Jadeja broke the 61-run partnership.

RCB scored 100 off 16.3 overs (99 balls). CSK had conceded 10 extras at that point.

Gayle, whose 50-ball innings included three boundaries and as many sixes, eventually scored 46. Seventeen balls after Kohli’s dismissal, Ashwin broke the 35-run stand.

De Villiers, whose 14-ball innings included a boundary and three sixes, scored 28. An over later, he was caught by Jadeja. David broke the 15-run stand.

Yuvraj Singh, whose nine-ball innings included a six, scored 13. He was unbeaten.

Rana, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Ten balls after de Villiers’ dismissal, he was caught by McCullum. David broke the 13-run stand.

Nechim, who faced a ball, scored a boundary. He was unbeaten.

CSK eventually conceded 13 extras. RCB, who scored 142 for the loss of five wickets off 19.5 overs, won by five wickets with a ball to spare.

Mohit Sharma, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 13.

Samuel Badree, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 15.

Raina, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 20.

Jadeja, who bowled four overs, conceded 31. He picked up a wicket.

David, who bowled 2.5 overs, conceded 38. He picked up a couple of scalps, as did Ashwin, who bowled four overs, including a maiden. He conceded 16.
