Delhi lose to Smith-led RR

RR (Shar)made three changes to their playing eleven – Ankit, Shane Watson, and Dishant Yagnik made way for Sanju Samson, Ben Cutting, and Dhawal Kulkarni.

DD made three changes to their playing eleven – Murali Vijay, Quinton de Kock, and Mohammed Shami made way for Manoj Tiwary, Ross Taylor, and Shahbaz Nadeem.

On winning the toss, Kevin Pietersen, DD’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of RR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 52, and lost a wicket.

Nair, whose 14-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 19. Thirty-three balls into the match, he was trapped leg before wicket by Shahbaz Nadeem, who broke the 44- (Ka)run stand.

RR scored 50 off half-a-dozen overs (36 balls). DD had conceded four extras at that point.

Kevon Cooper, whose 16-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and three sixes, scored 32. Thirty balls after Nair’s dismissal, he was caught by Rahul Shukla. Jean-Paul Duminy broke the 49-run stand.

RR scored 100 off 11.3 overs (69 balls). DD had conceded 10 extras at that point.  

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 30 balls. While the contribution of Ajinkya Rahane, the player of the match, to the partnership was 15, Samson’s contribution to it was 37. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

RR scored 150 off 15.4 overs (94 balls). DD had conceded a dozen extras at that point.

Rahane’s half-century – which included seven boundaries – came off 45 balls.

He eventually scored 64 off 50 balls, which included eight boundaries and a six. Thirty-nine balls after Cooper’s dismissal, Nadeem broke the 74-run partnership.

Stuart Binny, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. Four balls later, he was stumped by Dinesh Karthik. Tahir broke the one-man stand.

Samson, whose 25-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 40. Three balls later, he was stumped by Karthik. Tahir broke the one-run stand.

RR scored 200 off 19.5 overs (120 balls). DD had conceded 15 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 32. Cutting, whose six-ball innings included a six, scored eight. A couple of overs after Samson’s dismissal, Rahul ran him out.

James Faulkner, whose eight-ball innings included three sixes, scored 23. He was unbeaten.

Tiwary, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 28.

Kaul, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded (Siddar)thirty-four.

Rahul, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 44.

Duminy, who bowled three overs, conceded 25. He picked up a wicket.

Nadeem and Tahir bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of scalps apiece. While the former conceded 35, the latter conceded 25.

RR scored 201 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.

Mayank Agarwal, whose 10-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 17. Fifteen balls into the chase, he was caught by Steven Smith, RR’s skipper. Faulkner broke the 19-run stand.

Karthik, who faced eight balls, scored three. Thirteen balls later, he was caught by Cutting. Kulkarni broke the 11-run stand.

Duminy, whose run-a-ball (Prav)innings included a six, scored eight. Thirteen balls later, he was caught by Nair. Tambe broke the run-a-ball stand.

Pietersen, whose 18-ball innings included a boundary, scored 13. Rajat Bhatia broke the five-run stand.

DD scored 50 off eight overs (48 balls). RR had conceded five extras at that point.

Taylor, who faced five balls, scored four. Ten balls after Pietersen’s dismissal, he was caught by Bhatia, who broke the 10-run stand.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 17. Kedar Jadhav, who faced three balls, scored as many. Fourteen balls later, Cutting ran him out.

Nadeem, who faced four balls, scored a run. Ten balls later, Cutting broke the 11-run stand.

Tahir, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Eight balls later, Binny broke the five-run stand.

DD scored 100 off 16.1 overs (97 balls). RR had conceded eight extras at that point.

Tiwary’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a six – came off 39 balls.

He eventually scored 61 off 44 balls, which included the aforementioned number of boundaries, in addition to a couple of sixes. He was unbeaten.

Rahul, whose 12-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 14. Twenty-one balls after Tahir’s dismissal, he was caught by Steven. Cooper broke the 29-run stand.

Kaul, who faced a couple of balls, scored as many. He was unbeaten.

RR eventually conceded nine extras. DD, who scored 139 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs, lost by 62 runs.

Faulkner, who bowled an over, conceded half-a-dozen. He picked up a wicket.

Binny, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 14. He picked up a couple of wickets.

Tambe and Cooper, who bowled three overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 24, the latter conceded 19.

Cutting and Kulkarni, who bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 31, the latter, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 24.
