Mumbai disappointed; Gambhir-led KKR triumph

KKR made one changes to their playing eleven – Jacques Kallis made way for Shakib Al Hasan.

MI made no changes to their playing eleven.

On winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 37, and lost a couple of wickets.

Chidhambaram Gautam, whose nine-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. Fourteen balls into the match, he was caught by Suryakumar Yadav. Morne Morkel broke the 12-run stand.

Lendl Simmons, whose 14-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 12. Seventeen balls later, Shakib broke the 23-run stand.

MI scored 50 off 8.4 overs (53 balls). KKR had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Ambati Rayudu, whose 27-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 33. Forty balls after Simmons’ dismissal, he was caught by Suryakumar. Piyush Chawla broke the 35-run stand.

MI scored 100 off 15.2 overs (93 balls). KKR had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Corey Anderson, whose 12-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 18. Twenty-five balls after Rayudu’s dismissal, he was caught by Chawla. Morne broke the 45-run stand.

Rohit Sharma, MI’s skipper, scored 50 off 43 balls, which included four boundaries and a couple of sixes.

He eventually scored 51 off 45 balls. Twenty balls after Anderson’s dismissal, Sunil Narine broke the 23-run stand.

Kieron Pollard, who faced 11 balls, was unbea‘ten’.

Aditya Tare, who faced three balls, scored a couple. He was unbeaten.

The number of extras they eventually conceded gave KKR no reason to be in seventh heaven.

MI scored 141 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs.

Yusuf, who bowled (Path)an over, conceded 10. He was wicketless, as was Umesh Yadav, who bowled three overs, conceding 24.

Chawla, Shakib and Narine bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. They conceded 32, 21, and 18, respectively.

Morne, who bowled four overs, conceded 35. He picked up a couple of scalps.

The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 45, without the loss of a wicket.

KKR’s openers scored 50 off 6.5 overs (41 balls). MI had conceded three extras at that point. While the contribution of Robin, the player of the match, to the (Uthap)partnership was 33, Gambhir’s contribution to it was 14.

Gambhir, whose 18-ball innings included a boundary, didn’t add to the aforementioned score. Forty-six balls into the chase, Harbhajan Singh broke the 50-run partnership.

Uthappa’s half-century – which included eight boundaries and a six – came off 34 balls.

Manish Pandey, who faced 21 balls, scored 14. Forty-one balls after Gambhir’s dismissal, Harbhajan broke the 46-run stand.

KKR scored 100 off 15 overs (90 balls). MI had conceded four extras at that point.

Uthappa, whose 52-ball innings included nine boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 80. Eleven balls after Pandey’s dismissal, Simmons broke the 20-run stand.

Yusuf, whose 13-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 20. He was unbeaten.

Shakib, whose eight-ball innings included a six, scored nine. Fifteen balls after Uthappa’s dismissal, he was caught by Rayudu. Lasith Malinga broke the 22-run stand.

Ryan ten Doeschate, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.

MI eventually conceded five extras. KKR, who scored 142 for the loss of four wickets off 18.4 overs, lost by half-a-dozen wickets off eight balls to spare.

Pollard, who bowled an over, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he was wicketless.

Jasprit Bumrah bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 23.

Pragyan Ojha bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 25.

Simmons bowled three overs, conceding 34. He picked up a wicket, as did Malinga, who bowled 3.4 overs, conceding (Lasi)thirty.

Harbhajan bowled four overs, conceding 22. He picked up two scalps.
