Sharma shines; MI beat Bangalore

MI made one change to their playing eleven – Zaheer Khan made way for Pawan Suyal.

RCB made no changes to their playing eleven.

On winning the toss, Virat Kohli, RCB’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 50, and lost a wicket.

Ben Dunk, whose 14-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 15. Twenty balls into the match, he was caught by Yuvraj Singh. Harshal Patel broke the 25-run stand.

MI scored 50 off half-a-dozen overs (37 balls). RCB had conceded 10 extras at that point.

Ambati Rayudu, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine. Twenty-eight balls after Dunk’s dismissal, Ashok Dinda broke the 46-run stand.

Chidhambaram Gautam, whose 28-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and three sixes, scored 30. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Parthiv Patel. Aaron broke the (Va)run-a-ball stand.

Corey Anderson, who faced four balls, scored (Cha)half-a-dozen. His runs came by way of a six. Five balls later, he was caught by Kohli. Needless to say, Yuzvendra was in seventh heaven.

MI scored 100 off 13 overs (79 balls). RCB had conceded 21 extras at that point.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 43 balls. While the contribution of Rohit, MI's skipper and the player of the (Shar)match, to the partnership was 17, Kieron Pollard’s contribution to it was 31. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

MI scored 150 off 18 overs (109 balls). RCB had conceded 24 extras at that point.

Rohit’s half-century – which included a couple of boundaries and four sixes – came off 31 balls.

He eventually scored 59 off 35 balls, which included three boundaries, in addition to the aforementioned number of sixes. He was unbeaten.

The fifth-wicket pair eventually put on 97. Pollard, whose 31-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries, eventually scored 43. Sixty balls after Anderson’s dismissal, Parthiv and Starc ran him out.

Aditya Tare, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.

RCB eventually conceded 25 extras. MI scored 187 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs.

Yuvraj bowled an over, conceding nine. He was wicketless, as was Starc, who bowled four overs, conceding 29.

Dinda bowled three overs, conceding 38. He picked up a scalp, as did Aaron, Harshal, and Chahal, who bowled four overs apiece, conceding 41, 30, and 28, respectively.

RCB’s openers put on 50 off 4.2 overs (26 balls). MI had conceded three extras at that point. While Chris Gayle’s contribution to the partnership was 22, Parthiv’s contribution to it was 25.

Parthiv, whose 19-ball innings included five boundaries, eventually scored 26. Thirty-one balls into the chase, Harbhajan Singh broke the 53-run partnership.

Gayle, whose 24-ball innings included three boundaries and as many sixes, scored 38. Twenty-eight balls later, Harbhajan broke the 41-run stand.

RCB scored 100 off 10.2 overs (62 balls). MI had conceded nine extras at that point.

Although his innings included a couple of boundaries, A B de Villiers had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 17 balls after Gayle’s dismissal, Jasprit Bumrah broke the 23-run stand.

Kohli, whose 28-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, scored 35. Five balls later, he was caught by Anderson. Suyal broke the two-run stand.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 13. Yuvraj, who faced 10 balls, scored half-a-dozen. A dozen balls later, Pollard ran him out.

Starc, whose four-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Seven balls later, he was caught by Pollard. Lasith Malinga broke the run-a-ball stand.

RCB scored 150 off 17.2 overs (104 balls). MI had conceded nine extras at that point.

Harshal, who faced a couple of balls, scored half-a-dozen. His runs came by way of a six. Five balls later, Bumrah broke the 12-run stand.

Rilee Rossouw, whose 14-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, scored 24. Five balls later, he was caught by Rohit. Malinga broke the nine-run stand.

Although he was unbeaten, Aaron, whose innings included a boundary, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored eight.

Dinda, who faced four balls, scored a couple. He was unbeaten.

MI eventually conceded 10 extras. RCB, who scored 168 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs, lost by 19 runs.

Rohit bowled an over, conceding half-a-dozen. He was wicketless, as was Pollard, who bowled four overs, conceding 37.

Suyal bowled three overs, conceding 35. He picked up a scalp.
