Bailey-led KXIP advanced; Chennai disappointed

CSK made no changes to their playing eleven.

KXIP (Shar)made one changes to their playing eleven – Rishi Dhawan made way for Sandeep.

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over.  They scored 70, without the loss of a wicket.

KXIP’s openers put on 50 off 4.2 overs (26 balls). CSK had conceded a couple of extras at that point. While the contribution of Virender Sehwag, the player of the match, to the partnership was 26, Manan Vohra’s contribution to it was 23.

Sehwag’s half-century – which included seven boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 21 balls.

KXIP’s openers put on 100 off 9.1 overs (55 balls). CSK had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point. While Sehwag’s contribution to the partnership was 63, Vohra’s contribution to it was 33.

Vohra, whose 31-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 34. Sixty-four balls into the match, he was caught by Suresh Raina. Ishwar Pandey broke the 110-run partnership.

Glenn Maxwell, whose six-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 13. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Raina. Ravichandran Ashwin broke the 38-run stand.

KXIP scored 150 off 13.2 overs (80 balls). CSK had conceded 10 extras at that point.

Sehwag’s ton – which included 10 boundaries and half-a-dozen sixes – came off 50 balls.

KXIP scored 200 off 17.2 overs (105 balls). CSK had conceded 11 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 27 balls. While Sehwag’s contribution to the partnership was 20, David Miller’s contribution to it was 31. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Sehwag, whose 58-ball innings included a dozen boundaries and eight sixes, eventually scored 122. Thirty-two balls after Maxwell’s dismissal, he was caught by Faf du Plessis. Ashish Nehra broke the 63-run partnership.

George Bailey, KXIP’s skipper, faced a couple of balls, scoring a run. Five balls later, Nehra had a reason to be in seventh heaven.

The fifth-wicket pair had no reason to be in seventh heaven. David Miller, whose (Dho)nineteen-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, scored 38. Three balls later, the man from Ranchi ran him out.

Wriddhiman, who faced four balls, scored Saha. His runs came way of a six. Three balls later, he was caught by Dwayne Smith. Mohit Sharma broke the one-run stand.

Mitchell Johnson, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

KXIP scored 226 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four wickets apiece.

Ravindra Jadeja, who was wicketless, conceded 48.

Mohit, Ashwin, and Ishwar picked up a wicket apiece. They conceded 46, 44, and 35, respectively.

Nehra, who conceded 51, picked up a couple of scalps.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over.  They scored 100, and lost a couple of wickets.

Du Plessis, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. A couple of balls into the chase, he was caught by Bailey. Johnson broke the one-run stand.

CSK scored 50 off 3.5 overs (23 balls). KXIP had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Dwayne, who faced 11 balls, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 29 balls later, Sandeep broke the 66-run partnership.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 27 balls. While Dwayne’s contribution to the partnership was six, Raina’s contribution to it was 47. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Raina’s half-century – which included seven boundaries and four sixes – came off 16 balls.

CSK scored 100 off half-a-dozen overs (37 balls). KXIP had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 33. Raina, whose 25-ball innings included a dozen boundaries and half-a-dozen sixes, eventually scored 87. Seven balls after Dwayne’s dismissal, Bailey ran him out.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 40. Brendon McCullum, who faced 16 balls, scored 11. Thirty-five balls later, Maxwell and Saha ran him out.

The fifth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Jadeja, whose 21-ball innings included a couple of balls and a six, scored 27. The next ball, he was caught by Johnson off the bowling of Parvinder Awana.

David Hussey, who faced three balls, scored a run. Four balls later, he was caught by Sehwag. Awana broke the two-run stand.

CSK scored 150 off 14.2 overs (87 balls). KXIP had conceded nine extras at that point.

Dhoni, whose 31-ball innings included three boundaries and as many sixes, scored 42. He was unbeaten.

Ashwin, who faced (Pat)eleven balls, scored 10. Twenty-four balls after Dhoni’s dismissal, he was stumped by Saha. Axar broke the 25-run stand.

CSK scored 200 off 20 overs (122 balls). KXIP had conceded 16 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Mohit, who faced three balls, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

CSK, who scored 202 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs, lost by 24 runs.

Maxwell, who bowled an over, conceded four. He was wicketless, as was Karanveer Singh, who bowled four overs, conceding 32.

Sandeep, who bowled three overs, conceded 32. He picked up a wicket, as did Johnson and Axar, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 44, the latter conceded 23.

Awana, who bowled four overs, conceded 59. He picked up a couple of scalps.
