Gambhir delighted; KKR beat Punjab

KXIP made one change to their playing eleven – Sandeep (Shar)made way for Lakshmipathy Balaji.

KKR made no change to their playing eleven.

On winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 32, and lost a couple of wickets.

Although his 10-ball innings included a boundary, Virender Sehwag had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 22 balls into the match, he was caught by Gambhir. Umesh Yadav broke the 23-run stand.

George Bailey, KXIP’s skipper, faced a couple of balls, scored a run. N(ar)ine balls later, Sunil was in seventh heaven.

KXIP scored 50 off eight overs (48 balls). KKR had conceded an extra at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 40 balls. While Manan Vohra’s contribution to the partnership was 19, Wriddhiman Saha’s contribution to it was 33. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

KXIP scored 100 off 13.3 overs (81 balls). KKR had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Saha’s half-century – which included three boundaries and four sixes – came off 29 balls.

Vohra’s half-century – which included four boundaries and a six – came off 42 balls.

The third-wicket pair put on 100 off 59 balls. While Vohra’s contribution to the partnership was 40, Saha’s contribution to it was 60. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

KXIP scored 150 off 16.3 overs (100 balls). KKR had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Vohra, whose 52-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 67. Seventy-two balls after Bailey’s dismissal, he was caught by Piyush Chawla, who broke the 129-run partnership.

Glenn Maxwell, the player of the series, faced a ball, failing to get off the mark. Five balls later, he was caught by Morne. Chawla broke the (Mork)eleven-run stand.

Saha’s ton – which included eight boundaries and as many sixes – came off 49 balls.

He eventually scored 115 off 55 balls, which included 10 boundaries, in addition to the aforementioned sixes. He was unbeaten, as was David Miller, who faced a ball, scoring a run.

KKR eventually conceded eight extras. KXIP scored 199 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Morne and Shakib Al Hasan were wicketless. While the former conceded 40, the latter conceded 26.

Narine and Umesh picked up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 46, the latter conceded 39.

Chawla, who conceded 44, picking up two scalps.

Gambhir, whose 17-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 23. Thirty-three balls after Uthappa’s dismissal, he was caught by Miller. Karanveer Singh broke the 53-run partnership.

Manish’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 31 balls.

KKR scored 100 off 10.4 overs (64 balls). KXIP had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 34 balls. While Manish’s contribution to the partnership was 32, Yusuf Pathan’s contribution to it was 18. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Yusuf, whose 22-ball innings included four sixes, eventually scored 36. Forty-four balls after Gambhir’s dismissal, he was caught by Maxwell. Karanveer broke the 71-run partnership.

KKR scored 150 off 15 overs (90 balls). KXIP had conceded four extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 26. Although his innings included a couple of boundaries, Shakib had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored a dozen. A dozen balls after Yusuf’s dismissal, Bailey ran him out.

Ryan ten Doeschate, who faced three balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. A dozen balls later, he was caught by Miller. Karanveer broke the 12-run stand.

Manish, whose 50-ball innings included seven boundaries and half-a-dozen sixes, eventually scored 94. Three balls later, he was caught by Bailey. Karanveer broke the 11-run stand.

Suryakumar Yadav, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored five. Eight balls later, he was caught by Vohra. Johnson broke the eight-run stand.

Chawla, whose five-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 13. He was unbeaten, as was Narine, who faced five balls, scoring a couple.

KKR, who scored 200 off 19.3 overs (117 balls), had no reason to be in seventh heaven – they won by three wickets with three balls to spare. KXIP had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Parvinder Awana bowled 3.3 overs, conceding 43. He was wicketless, as were Balaji and Axar, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 41, the latter conceded 21.

Johnson bowled four overs, conceding 41. He picked up two wickets.

Karanveer bowled four overs, conceding 54. He picked up four scalps.
