KKR made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Jacques Kallis and Vinay Kumar made way for Andre Russell and Umesh Yadav.
MI made three (Fin)changes
to their playing (Micha)eleven – Hussey, Chidhambaram Gautam, and Zaheer Khan
made way for Aaron, Vinay Kumar, and Jasprit Bumrah.
On winning the
toss, Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the
mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 37,
and lost three wickets.
Finch, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary,
scored five. Nine balls into the match, he was caught by Umesh. Morne Morkel,
the player of the match, broke the eight-run stand.
Although his run-a-ball innings included a boundary,
Aditya had no (Ta)reason to be in seventh heaven – 21 balls later, he was
caught by Umesh. Shakib Al Hasan broke the 29-run stand.
The third-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Ambati Rayudu,
who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls later,
he was caught by Yusuf Pathan off the bowling of Morkel.
MI scored 50 off 8.5 overs (53 balls). KKR had conceded a
couple of extras at that point.
Rohit’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries
and a six – came off 46 balls.
MI scored 100 off 15 overs (90 balls). KKR had conceded a
couple of extras at that point.
The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 55 balls. Rohit’s contribution
to the partnership was 27, Anderson’s contribution to it was 23. Extras didn’t contribute
to the partnership.
The fourth-wicket pair put on 100 off 77 balls. Rohit’s contribution
to the partnership was 63, Anderson’s contribution to it was 38. Extras’ contribution
to the partnership was a run.
MI scored 150 off 19.1 overs (115 balls). KKR had conceded
three extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they
eventually conceded.
Rohit eventually scored 98 off 65 balls, which included a
dozen boundaries and four fours. He was unbeaten.
Anderson’s half-century – which included four boundaries
and three sixes – came off 41 balls.
In fact, he eventually scored 55, and was unbeaten.
MI scored 168 for the loss of three wickets off 20 overs.
Piyush Chawla, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded
16.
Umesh and Russell bowled three wicketless overs each. While
the former conceded 36, the latter conceded 21.
Sunil Narine, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 28.
Shakib, who bowled four overs, conceded 48. He picked up a
wicket.
Piyush Chawla bowled four wicketless overs, including a
maiden. He conceded 18, picking up a couple of scalps.

Manish, whose 24-ball innings included a couple of
boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 40. Sixty-five balls after
Uthappa’s dismissal, he was caught by Kieron Pollard. Harbhajan broke the
85-run partnership.

and a six – came off 39 balls.
He eventually scored 57 off 43 balls, which included seven
boundaries, in addition to the six. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by
Rayudu. Jasprit Bumrah broke the 23-run stand.
Suryakumar Yadav, whose 20-ball innings included a
boundary and five sixes, scored 46. He was unbeaten.
KKR scored 150 off 17 overs (102 balls). MI had conceded four
extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they
eventually conceded.
Yusuf, whose 12-ball innings included a boundary and a
six, scored 14. He was unbeaten.
KKR, who scored 170 for three wickets off 18.3 overs, had
a reason to be in seventh heaven – they won with nine balls to spare.
Pragyan Ojha, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs,
conceded 23.
Vinay, who bowled 3.3 wicketless overs, conceded 21.
Lasith Malinga, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded
27.
Anderson, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 21. He
picked up a wicket.
Bumrah, who bowled three overs, conceded 38. He picked up
a wicket.
Harbhajan, who bowled four overs, conceded 38. He picked
up a wicket.
