Dhoni-led CSK beat Delhi narrowly

CSK made one change to their playing eleven – David Hussey made way for Dwayne Bravo.

DD made seven changes to their playing (Mork)eleven – Kevin Pietersen, Dinesh Karthik, Manoj Tiwary, James Neesham, Shahbaz Nadeem, Mohammed Shami, and Jaydev Unadkat made way for Chidhambaram Gautam, Albie, Shreyas Iyer, Yuvraj Singh, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Amit Mishra, and Domnic Muthuswami.

On winning the toss, Jean-Paul Duminy, DD’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 59, and lost a couple of wickets.

Brendon McCullum, who faced a couple of balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Eight balls into the match, he was caught by Yuvraj. Coulter-Nile broke the 20-run stand.

Suresh Raina had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored four. Sixteen balls later, Coulter-Nile broke the 18-run stand.

CSK scored 50 off 5.1 overs (32 balls). DD had conceded 11 extras at that point.

Dwayne Smith, whose 31-ball innings included six boundaries, scored 34. Twenty-five balls after Raina’s dismissal, he was caught by Coulter-Nile. Imran Tahir broke the 33-run stand.

CSK scored 100 off 12.1 overs (74 balls). DD had conceded 13 extras at that point.

Faf du Plessis, whose 24-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 32. Twenty-five balls after Dwayne Smith’s dismissal, he was caught by Shreyas. Duminy broke the 29-run stand.

Ravindra Jadeja, whose 18-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 17. Eighteen balls later, he was stumped by Gautam. Mishra broke the 17-run stand.

Bravo, who faced three balls, scored a run. Eight balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Muthuswami, who broke the six-run stand.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, scored 30. His 27-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes. Nineteen balls later, he was caught by Mayank Agarwal. Coulter-Nile broke the 28-run stand.

Ravichandran Ashwin, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary, scored a dozen. He was unbeaten, as was Mohit Sharma, who faced a ball, scoring a couple.

CSK scored 150 (for the loss of seven wickets) off 20 overs (121 balls). DD had conceded 14 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Albie, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 28.

Duminy, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 15. He picked up a wicket.

Muthuswami, who bowled three overs, conceded 18. He picked up a wicket.

Tahir and Mishra bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 27, the latter conceded 21.

Coulter-Nile, who bowled four overs, conceded 30. He picked up three scalps.

Gautam, who faced five balls, scored four. Fifteen balls into the chase, he was caught by Bravo. Ashish Nehra, the player of the match, broke the run-a-ball stand.

Agarwal, whose 12-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 15. Three balls later, he was caught by Dhoni. Nehra broke the five-run stand.

Shreyas, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – a couple of overs later, he was caught by du Plessis. Nehra broke the 19-run stand.

DD scored 50 off 7.5 overs (47 balls). CSK had conceded an extra at that point.

Kedar Jadhav, whose run-a-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 20. Forty-nine balls after Shreyas’ dismissal, he was caught by Jadeja. Mohit broke the 48-run stand.

Yuvraj, whose six-ball innings included a boundary, scored four. Eight balls later, he was caught by Ishwar Pandey. Bravo broke the 12-run stand.

DD scored 100 off 14.4 overs (88 balls). CSK had conceded three extras at that point.

Duminy, who faced five balls, scored as many. Ishwar had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he broke the run-a-ball stand.

Coulter-Nile, whose four-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. A couple of balls later, Ashwin broke the 17-run stand.

The eighth-wicket pair put on half-a-dozen. Mishra, who faced four balls, scored as many. Half-a-dozen balls later, Dhoni and Nehra ran him out.

Tahir, who faced a couple of balls, scored as many. Five balls later, he was caught by Raina. Bravo broke the eight-run stand.  

Albie’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries – came off 43 balls.

He eventually scored 73 off 55 balls, which included eight boundaries and a six. He was unbeaten.

Muthuswami, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.

CSK eventually conceded five extras. DD, who scored 149 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs, lost by just a run.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Mohit, Ishwar, and Ashwin picked up a wicket apiece. They conceded 33, 30, and 25, respectively.

Bravo, who conceded 36, picked up a couple of wickets.

Nehra, who conceded 25, picked up three scalps.
