Punjab disheartened; Steve-led RR win

KXIP (Shar)made three changes to their playing eleven – Manan Vohra, Lakshmipathy Balaji, and Parvinder Awana made way for Murali Vijay, Anureet Singh, and Sandeep.

RR made five changes to their playing eleven – Shane Watson, Brad Hodge, Kevon Cooper, Abhishek Nayar and Ankit (Shar)made way for Steven Smith (who was leading the team), Stuart Binny, Deepak Hooda, Chris Morris, and Tim Southee.

On winning the toss, George Bailey, KXIP’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of RR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over.  They scored 35, and lost three wickets.

Ajinkya Rahane, who faced eight balls, didn’t get off the mark. Nine balls into the match, he was caught by Axar Patel. Anureet Singh broke the five-run stand.

Sanju Samson, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored five. Eight balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Sandeep, who broke the nine-run stand.

Karun Nair, whose 11-ball innings included a six, scored eight. Axar broke the 21-run stand.

RR scored 50 off 7.4 overs (46 balls). KXIP had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 50 off 35 balls. While Hooda’s contribution to the partnership was 30, the contribution of James Faulkner, the player of the match, to it was 17. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.

Hooda, whose 15-ball innings included a boundary and three sixes, scored 30. Thirty-six balls after Binny’s dismissal, Anureet broke the 51-run partnership.

Faulkner, whose 33-ball innings included two boundaries and three sixes, scored 46. Seventeen balls later, he was caught by Miller. Anureet broke the 34-run stand.

The second-wicket pair put on 32. Saha, whose four-ball innings included a boundary, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 17 balls later, Samson ran him out.

Although his five-ball innings included a boundary. Glenn Maxwell had no reason to be in seventh heaven – a couple of overs later, he was caught by Southee. Faulkner broke the 14-run stand.
