CSK made a couple of changes to their playing (Samu)eleven – Mithun
Manhas and Badree made way for Brendon McCullum and Ishwar Pandey.
On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, chose to
field.
The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the
mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 53,
without the loss of a wicket.
MI’s openers put on 50 off 5.5 overs (35 balls). CSK had
conceded a couple of extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number
of extras they eventually conceded. While Lendl Simmons’ contribution to the
partnership was 28, Michael Hussey’s contribution to it was 23.
Michael, whose 33-ball innings included four boundaries
and a six, eventually scored 39. Fifty-eight balls into the match, Ravindra Jadeja
broke the 76-run partnership.
Corey Anderson, whose 10-ball innings included a boundary
and a couple of sixes, scored 20. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Ishwar.
Ravichandran Ashwin broke the 23-run stand.
MI scored 100 off 12.2 overs (74 balls).
Simmons’ half-century – which included five boundaries and
a couple of sixes – came off 36 balls.
He eventually scored 67 off 44 balls, which included the
aforementioned number of boundaries, in addition to four sixes. Twenty-seven
balls after Anderson’s dismissal, he was caught by Suresh Raina, the player of
the match. Jadeja broke the 44-run stand.
MI scored 150 off 17.2 overs (104 balls).
Rohit Sharma, MI’s skipper, scored 20 off 16 balls, which
included three sixes. Five balls after Simmons’ dismissal, he was caught by McCullum.
Needless to say, Sharma’s namesake, Mohit was in seventh heaven.
Kieron Pollard, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary
and a six, scored 14. Seven balls later, he was caught by Mohit. Ashish Nehra broke
the 13-run stand.
Aditya Tare, who faced a ball, did not get off the mark. A
couple of balls later, he was caught by Faf du Plessis. Nehra broke the one-run
stand.
The seventh-wicket pair D(av)id not get off the mark. Ambati
Rayudu, who faced three balls, scored a couple. The next ball, he was caught by
the younger of the Hussey brothers off the bowling of Mohit.
Although he was unbeaten, Harbhajan Singh, whose two-ball innings
included a six, had no reason to be in seventh heaven.
Praveen, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Three
balls later, Mohit broke the two-run stand.
Pragyan Ojha, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was
unbeaten.
MI score 173 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs.
Raina, who bowled an over, was wicketless, as was Ishwar,
who bowled three overs, conceding 25.
Ashwin, who bowled four overs, conceded 26. He picked up a
wicket.
Nehra and Jadeja bowled four overs each, picking up a
couple of wickets apiece. While the former conceded 34, the latter conceded 31.
Mohit, who bowled four overs, conceded 42. He picked up
three scalps.

broke the 23-run stand.
CSK scored 100 off 11.2 overs (68 balls). MI had conceded half-a-dozen
extras at that point.
The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 39 balls. While the contribution
of Raina to the partnership was 25, the contribution of David to it was 24.
Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

extras at that point.
Raina’s half-century – which included three boundaries and
a couple of sixes – came off 30 balls.
He eventually scored 54 off 33, which included four boundaries,
in addition to the aforementioned number of sixes. He was unbeaten, as was David,
whose 29-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and three sixes, eventually
scored 40.
MI eventually conceded nine extras. CSK, who scored 176
for the loss of three wickets off 18.4 overs, had a reason to be in seventh
heaven – they won with eight balls to spare, and advanced to Qualifier 2.
Pollard, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 10.
Anderson, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 35.
Jasprit Bumrah, who bowled 3.4 wicketless overs, conceded
40.
Praveen, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 27.
Pragyan, who bowled three overs, conceded 34. He picked up
a wicket.
Harbhajan, who bowled four overs, conceded 27. He picked
