The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the
mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They
scored 55, and lost a wicket.
Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper, faced three balls, scoring
a run. Eight balls into the match, he was caught by Bailey. Mitchell Johnson
broke the two-run stand.
KKR scored 50 off 5.4 overs (34 balls). KXIP had conceded three
extras at that point.
The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 26 balls. While Robin’s
contribution to the (Uthap)partnership was 35, Manish Pandey’s contribution to
it was 13. Extras’ contribution to it was three.
Uthappa, whose 30-ball innings included four boundaries
and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 42. Forty-two balls after Gambhir’s
dismissal, he was caught by David Miller. Axar Patel broke the 65-run
partnership.
The third-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Manish,
whose 20-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 21. Three
balls later, he was dismissed by Axar.
