Dhoni shines; CSK beat Bangalore

RCB made four changes to their playing eleven – Chris Gayle, Abu Nechim, Ashok Dinda, and Muttiah Muralitharan made way for Rilee Rossouw, Vijay Zol, Ravi Rampaul, and Shadab Jakati.

CSK made a couple of changes to their playing (Samu)eleven – John Hastings and Pawna Negi made way for Badree and Ashish Nehra.

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper and the player of the match, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 34, and lost three wickets.

Rossouw, who faced four balls, scored a run. Five balls into the match, Nehra broke the two-run stand.

Yogesh, whose 17-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 19. Twenty-four balls later, he was trapped (Takawa)leg before wicket by Ravichandran Ashwin, who broke the 29-run stand.

Zol, whose 12-ball innings included a six, scored 13. Five balls later, Mohit Sharma broke the four-run stand.

RCB scored 50 off 9.3 overs (57 balls). CSK had conceded an extra at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 43 balls. While the contribution of Virat Kohli, RCB’s skipper, to the partnership was 26, Yuvraj Singh’s contribution to it was 23. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Yuvraj, whose 24-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, eventually scored 25. Fifty balls after Zol’s dismissal, he was caught by Suresh Raina. Ravindra Jadeja broke the 55-run partnership.

RCB scored 100 off 14.5 overs (89 balls). CSK had conceded an extra at that point.

Kohli’s half-century – which included a boundary and three sixes – came off 40 balls.

A B de Villiers, whose six-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 10. Twenty-two balls after Yuvraj’s dismissal, Nehra broke the 42-run stand.

RCB scored 150 off 19.1 overs (115 balls). CSK had conceded five extras at that point.

Kohli, whose 49-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and five sixes, eventually scored 73. Ten balls after de Villiers’ dismissal, Nehra broke the 20-run stand.

Sachin Rana, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored five. He was unbeaten, as was Mitchell Starc, who faced a couple of balls, scoring as many.

CSK eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. RCB scored 154 for the loss of half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Badree, who bowled three overs, conceded 29. He was wicketless, as was Raina, who bowled four overs, conceding 27.

Jadeja, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 14. He picked up a wicket.

Mohit, who bowled three overs, conceded 16. He picked up a wicket.

Ashwin, who bowled four overs, conceded 33. He picked up a wicket.

Nehra, who bowled four overs, conceded 33. He picked up three scalps.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 64, and lost a wicket.

CSK’s openers put on 50 off 24 balls. RCB had conceded an extra at that point. While Dwayne Smith’s contribution to the partnership was 30, Faf du Plessis’ contribution to it was 22.

Dwayne, whose 17-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, eventually scored 34. Twenty-six balls into the chase, he was caught by Kohli. Rampaul broke the 57-run partnership.

Raina, whose run-a-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 18. Thirty-one balls later, he was stumped by Takawale. Yuvraj broke the 28-run stand.

CSK scored 100 off 13.1 overs (79 balls). RCB had conceded an extra at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 41 balls. RCB had conceded four extras at that point. While du Plessis’ contribution to the partnership was 13. Dhoni’s contribution to it was 36.

CSK scored 150 off 17.2 overs (104 balls). RCB had conceded five extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Du Plessis’ half-century – which included three boundaries and as many sixes – came off 43 balls. He eventually scored 54, and was unbeaten, as was Dhoni, who eventually scored 49 off 28 balls, which included four boundaries and three sixes.

CSK, who scored 160 for the loss of a couple of wickets off 17.4 overs, won by eight wickets with 14 balls to spare.

Rana, who bowled a wicketless over, had no reason to be in seventh heaven.

Starc, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 33.

Jakati, who bowled 3.4 wicketless overs, conceded 41.

Yuzvendra Chahal, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 24.
