Gambhir-led KKR triumph over Chennai

KKR made one change to their playing (Mork)eleven – Morne made way for Pat Cummins.

CSK made two changes to their playing (Samu)eleven – David Hussey and Badree made way for Faf du Plessis and Ben Hilfenhaus.

On winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the fifth over. They scored 35, and lost a wicket.

Dwayne Smith, whose six-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Eight balls into the match, Cummins broke the five-run stand.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 45 balls. While Brendon McCullum’s contribution to the partnership was 26, Suresh Raina’s contribution to it was 23. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

McCullum, whose 24-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 28. Fifty-five balls after Dwayne’s dismissal, he was caught by Suryakumar Yadav. Sunil Narine broke the run-a-ball partnership.

Raina’s half-century – which included three boundaries and four sixes – came off 43 balls.

CSK scored 100 off 14.1 overs (85 balls). KKR had conceded an extra at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 29 balls. While Raina’s contribution to the partnership was 30, Faf du Plessis’ contribution to it was 20. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

The third-wicket pair eventually scored 62. Du Plessis, whose 20-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, eventually scored 23. Thirty-six balls after McCullum’s dismissal, Piyush Chawla ran him out.

Raina, whose 50-ball innings included the aforementioned number of boundaries, in addition to five sixes, eventually scored 65. Half-a-dozen balls (Chaw)later, he was caught by Ryan ten Doeschate. Needless to say, the leggie was in seventh heaven.

CSK scored 150 off 19.3 overs (117 balls). KKR had conceded three extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, scored 21 off 15 balls, which included a boundary and a six. He was unbeaten, as was Ravindra Jadeja, who scored nine off four balls, which included a six.

CSK scored 154 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Shakib Al Hasan and Umesh Yadav were wicketless. While the former conceded 30, the latter conceded 29.

Chawla, Cummins (whose spell included a maiden), and Narine picked up a scalp apiece. They conceded 42, 29, and 24, respectively.

The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the fifth over. They scored 52, without the loss of a wicket.

KKR’s openers put on 50 off 5.2 overs (32 balls). CSK had conceded an extra at that point. While the contribution of the Robin, the player of the match, to the (Uthap)partnership was 40, Gambhir’s contribution to it was nine.

Uthappa’s half-century – which included nine boundaries – came off 29 balls.

Gambhir, whose 20-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 21. Ishwar Pandey had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he broke the 64-run partnership.

Uthappa, whose 39-ball innings included 10 boundaries and a six, eventually scored 67. Twenty-eight balls later, he was caught by du Plessis. Jadeja broke the 34-run stand.

KKR scored 100 off 12.3 overs (75 balls). CSK had conceded four extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

KKR scored 150 off 17.3 overs (105 balls).

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 35 balls. While Manish Pandey’s contribution to the partnership was 11, Shakib’s contribution to it was 41. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Manish, who faced 28 balls, eventually scored 18. He was unbeaten, as was Shakib, who eventually scored 46 off 21 balls, which included half-a-dozen boundaries and two sixes.

KKR, who scored 156 for the loss of a couple of wickets off 18 overs, won by eight wickets with a couple of overs to spare.

Raina bowled a wicketless over, conceding nine.

Hilfenhaus and Mohit Sharma bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 38, the latter conceded 28.

Ravichandran Ashwin bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 24.
