Punjab lose to Rohit-led MI

KXIP made one change to their playing eleven – David Miller made way for Shaun Marsh.

MI made one change to their playing eleven – Harbhajan Singh made way for Praveen Kumar.

On winning the toss, Rohit Sharma, MI’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over.  They scored 48, and lost a wicket.

KXIP’s openers put on 23. Virender Sehwag, whose 11-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, scored 17. Thirteen balls into the match, Praveen ran him out.

KXIP scored 50 off 6.1 overs (37 balls). MI had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 38 balls. While Manan Vohra’s contribution to the partnership was 28, Marsh’s contribution to it was 19. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was half-a-dozen.

Marsh, whose 17-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, eventually scored 30. Forty-three balls after Sehwag’s dismissal, he was caught by Kieron Pollard. Krishmar Santokie broke the 64-run partnership.

Vohra, whose 34-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, eventually scored 36. Eight balls later, Shreyas Gopal broke the five-run stand.

Glenn Maxwell, who faced three balls, scored two. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Gopal, who broke the one-run stand.

KXIP scored 100 off 12.4 overs (76 balls). MI had conceded eight extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 12. Wriddhiman Saha, who faced eight balls, scored three. Twenty-two balls after Maxwell’s dismissal, Ambati Rayudu ran him out.

Axar, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Nine balls later, he was caught by Rohit. Praveen broke the (Pat)eleven-run stand.

KXIP scored 150 off 19.2 overs (118 balls).

George Bailey, KXIP’s skipper, scored 39 off 30 balls, which included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes. Twenty balls after Axar’s dismissal, he was caught by Rayudu. Jasprit Bumrah broke the 38-run stand.

Rishi Dhawan, whose nine-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 14. He was unbeaten.

Beuran Hendricks, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls after Bailey’s dismissal, Bumrah broke the one-run stand.

Shivam Sharma, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

KXIP scored 156 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Pragyan Ojha, who was wicketless, conceded 28.

Santokie and Praveen picked up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 40, the latter conceded 20.

Gopal and Bumrah picked up two scalps apiece. While the former conceded 32, the latter conceded 31.

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over.  They scored 62, without the loss of a wicket.

MI’s openers put on 50 off 4.4 overs (28 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave KXIP no reason to be in seventh heaven. While the contribution of Lendl Simmons, the player of the match, to the partnership was 42, Michael Hussey’s contribution to it was a couple.

Simmons’ half-century – which included 10 boundaries – came off 27 balls.

Michael, who faced 13 balls, eventually scored half-a-dozen. Axar had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he broke the 68-run partnership.

MI scored 100 off 10.3 overs (63 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave KXIP no reason to be in seventh heaven.

Rayudu, who faced 17 balls, scored 14. Twenty-nine balls after Michael’s dismissal, he was caught by Sehwag. Rishi broke the 43-run stand.

Rohit, whose 20-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 18. Thirty-three balls later,  he was caught by Sandeep Sharma. Hendricks broke the 37-run stand.

MI scored 150 off 17.4 overs (106 balls). KXIP had conceded 10 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Simmons’ ton – which included 14 boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 61 balls. He was unbeaten, as was Pollard, who scored half-a-dozen. His eight-ball innings included a six.

MI, who scored 159 for the loss of three wickets off 19 overs, had a reason to be in seventh heaven – they won with an over to spare.

Sandeep bowled three overs, conceding 37. He was wicketless, as was Shivam, who bowled four overs, conceding 32.

Hendricks, Rishi, and Axar bowled four overs each, picking up a scalp apiece. They conceded 33, 30, and 27, respectively.
