Rohit-led MI delighted; Delhi lose

MI made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Krishmar Santokie and Praveen Kumar made way for Harbhajan Singh and Marchant de Lange.

DD made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Mayank Agarwal and Mohammed Shami made way for Shahbaz Nadeem and Siddarth Kaul.

On winning the toss, Kevin Pietersen, DD’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 65, without the loss of a wicket.

MI’s openers put on 50 off 4.5 overs (29 balls). DD had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point. While Lendl Simmons’ contribution to the partnership was 15, the contribution of Michael Hussey, the player of the match, to it was 29.

Michael’s half-century – which included seven boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 28 balls.

Simmons, whose 25-ball innings included five boundaries, eventually scored 35. Eight overs into the match, he was caught by Wayne Parnell. Imran Tahir broke the 87-run partnership.

MI scored 100 off 10 overs (60 balls). DD had conceded eight extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 33. Michael eventually scored 56 off 33 balls. Four balls after Simmons’ dismissal, Dinesh Karthik and Kedar Jadhav ran him out.

Rohit Sharma, MI’s skipper, scored 30 off 21 balls, which included four boundaries. Fourteen balls later, Jaydev Unadkat broke the 20-run stand.

Kieron Pollard, whose eight-ball innings included a six, scored 11. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Dinesh Karthik. Unadkat broke the one-run stand.

MI scored 150 off 15.1 overs (91 balls). DD had conceded eight extras at that point.

Ambati Rayudu, who faced three balls, scored a couple. Half-a-dozen balls after Pollard’s dismissal, he was caught by Murali Vijay. Shahbaz Nadeem broke the 10-run stand.

Aditya Tare, whose eight-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 14. Five balls later, he was caught by Jadhav. Four balls later, Tahir broke the six-run stand.

Harbhajan, who faced three balls, scored a couple. Five balls later, he was caught by Vijay. Parnell broke the four-run stand.

De Lange, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Karthik. Needless to say, Tahir was in seventh heaven.

The ninth-wicket pair put on three. Pragyan Ojha, who faced a couple of balls, scored as many, Four balls later, Manoj Tiwary and Karthik ran him out.

The last-wicket pair put on a couple. Shreyas Gopal, whose 10-ball innings included a boundary, scored 11. Three balls later, Karthik ran him out.

Jasprit Bumrah, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. He was unbeaten.

DD eventually conceded nine extras. MI scored 173 for the loss of eight wickets off 19.3 overs.

Kaul, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 21. He was wicketless, as was Jean-Paul Duminy, who bowled four overs, conceding 31.

Parnell, who bowled 3.3 overs, conceded 26. He picked up a wicket, as did Nadeem, who bowled four overs, conceding 28.

Unadkat, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 24. He picked up two wickets.

Tahir, who bowled four overs, conceded 27. He picked up three scalps.

The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 47, and lost a wicket.

Vijay, who faced a dozen balls, scored eight. Thirty-two balls into the chase, he was stumped by Tare. Gopal broke the 43-run stand.

DD scored 50 off 6.4 overs (40 balls). MI had conceded an extra at that point.

Pietersen, whose 31-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six, scored 44. Twenty-one balls after Vijay’s dismissal, Harbhajan broke the 16-run stand.

Although his 13-ball innings included a boundary, Karthik had no reason to be in seventh heaven – five balls later, de Lange broke the two-run stand.

DD scored 100 off 13.5 overs (83 balls). MI had conceded four extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 35 balls. While Manoj Tiwary’s contribution to the partnership was 27, Duminy’s contribution to it was 22. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Tiwary, whose 31-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, eventually scored 41. Fifty-three balls after Karthik’s dismissal, he was caught by Michael. De Lange broke the 85-run partnership.

DD scored 150 off 19.1 overs (116 balls). MI had conceded five extras at that point.

Duminy, whose 29-ball innings included four sixes, eventually scored 45. He was unbeaten, as was Jadhav, who had no reason to be in seventh heaven, despite the fact that his five-ball innings included a boundary.

MI eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. DD, who scored 158 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs, lost by 15 runs.

Pollard, who bowled an over, conceded four. He was wicketless, as were Bumrah and Pragyan Ojha, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 36, the latter conceded 33.

Gopal, who bowled three overs, conceded 20. He picked up a wicket, as did Harbhajan, who bowled four overs, conceding 30.
