Sharma-led MI beat ‘hosts’ Rajasthan

RR (Shar)made four changes to their playing eleven – Ajinkya Rahane, Ben Cutting, Steven Smith, and Pravin Tambe made way for Unmukt Chand, Shane Watson (who returned to lead the team), Ankit, and Brad Hodge.

MI made three changes to their playing (Micha)eleven – Chidhambaram Gautam, Corey Anderson, and Lasith Malinga made way for Hussey (the player of the match), Krishmar Santokie, and Shreyas Gopal.

On winning the toss, Rohit Sharma, MI’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 42, without the loss of a wicket.

MI’s openers put on 50 off 6.4 overs (41 balls). RR had conceded a couple of extras at that point. While Michael’s contribution to the partnership was 18, Lendl Simmons’ contribution to it was 30.

Michael’s half-century – which included three boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 32 balls.

Simmons’ half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six – came off 43 balls.

MI’s openers put on 100 off 12.2 overs (75 balls). RR had conceded three extras at that point. While Michael’s contribution to the partnership was 50, Simmons’ contribution to it was 51.

Simmons, whose 51-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 62. Eighty-seven balls into the match, he was caught by Kevon Cooper. Ankit broke the 120-run partnership.

Michael eventually scored 56 off 39 balls. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Cooper. Ankit broke the run-a-ball stand.

MI scored 150 off 18.1 overs (110 balls). RR had conceded four extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 27 balls. While Kieron Pollard’s contribution to the partnership was 13, Rohit’s contribution to it was 36. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Pollard, whose 12-ball innings included a six, eventually scored 14. He was unbeaten.

The third-wicket pair put on 56. Rohit, whose 19-ball innings included three boundaries and four sixes, eventually scored 40. Five overs after Michael’s dismissal, James Faulkner ran him out.

RR eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. MI scored 178 for the loss of three wickets off 20 overs.

Stuart Binny bowled a wicketless over, conceding 12.

Cooper bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 27.

Faulkner, Rajat Bhatia, and Dhawal Kulkarni bowled four wicketless overs apiece. They conceded 47, 39, and 27, respectively.

Ankit bowled four overs, conceding 23. He picked up a couple of scalps.

Chand, who faced nine balls, scored a couple. Fifteen balls into the chase, he was caught by Michael. Pragyan Ojha broke the 17-run stand.

Sanju Samson, who faced five balls, scored a couple. Seven balls later, he was caught by Rayudu. Santokie broke the four-run stand.

RR scored 50 off 6.4 overs (40 balls). MI had conceded three extras at that point.

Cooper, who faced eight balls, scored five. Thirteen balls after Samson’s dismissal, he was caught by Pollard. Harbhajan Singh broke the 19-run stand.

Ankit, who faced three balls, scored four. Five balls later, he was caught by Rayudu. Gopal broke the run-a-ball stand.

Binny, who faced 10 balls, scored just a couple. A dozen balls later, he was stumped by Aditya Tare. Gopal broke the three-run stand.

Nair, whose 24-ball innings included four boundaries and three sixes, scored 48. Nine balls later, he was caught by Santokie. Harbhajan broke the six-(Ka)run stand.

RR scored 100 off 15.4 overs (94 balls). MI had conceded five extras at that point.

The eighth-wicket pair put on 50 off 35 balls. While Hodge’s contribution to the partnership was 32, Faulkner’s contribution to it was 18. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Hodge, whose 30-ball innings included three sixes, eventually scored 40. Forty-one balls after Nair’s dismissal, he was caught by Rohit. Santokie broke the 69-run partnership.

Faulkner, whose 21-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 31. He was unbeaten.

RR scored 150 off 19.4 overs (118 balls). MI had conceded four extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Bhatia, whose four-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. He was unbeaten.

RR, who scored 153 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs, lost by 25 runs.

Pollard bowled an over, conceding 11. He was wicketless, as was Jasprit Bumrah, who bowled three overs, conceding 23.
